In the backdrop of Tablighi Jamaat ‘incident’ in Delhi’s Nizamuddin West, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday notified the state administration to make sure that no religious gathering of any kind should be allowed. 

This is being done to deter any incident like the ‘Tablighi Jamaat’ one from happening. Thackeray told the district collectors that religious programmers, events or gatherings shouldn’t be allowed at any cost. 

“If required, I will speak to organisers but don’t allow any such event till we defeat crisis of coronavirus,” Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray said while urging those who attended the religious gathering in Delhi to come forward for tests and cooperate with the state government. 

Nearly 3,400 people gathered at the Nizamuddin area for the Tablighi Jamaat event on March 13. Of the people present at the religious gathering, a few of them came from abroad and were COVID-19 positive. 

Demanding a tough action against the organisers earlier, for committing a “grave crime”, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain that 24 people staying there have been found coronavirus or COVID-19 positive.

Earlier, the Markaz Nizamuddin was sealed and 700 people were moved out in buses are quarantined in different parts of the city. 

Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Tuesday informed that the authorities have been instructed to trace those citizens (from Maharashtra), who may have visited the religious gathering in Delhi’s Nizamuddin West. 

As of April 2, in Maharashtra, the number of positive COVID-19 cases have increased to 338 while the death toll is 13. Of the 338 cases in the state, 181 COVID-19 patients are from Mumbai. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-days nationwide lockdown in view of the increasing cases of the coronavirus or COVID-19. The Maharashtra government is facing the economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak. 

Maharashtra government earlier wrote to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to release the Goods and Services Tax of Maharashtra which amounts to ₹16,654 crores while seeking a ₹25,000 crore package from the centre to tackle the health and economic crisis.
