Coronavirus cases in Mumbai and nearby districts are increasing exponentially and several patients have died due to the infection. However, some political leaders say that fewer deaths have been reported by Vasai-Virar and Thane Municipal Corporation areas. Recently, the BJP slammed the Thackeray government and said that the officials are hiding the death toll in these areas.

Sharing more information, BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya has claimed that the government is manipulating the numbers while presenting it to the people. As per reports, between April 1 and 13, 2021, a total of 201 patients died of coronavirus in Vasai-Virar city. However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has shown only 23 deaths. Meanwhile, 57 corona deaths have been reported in Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) area, whereas 309 people have been cremated in cemeteries, mentioned  Somaiya. He shared the details on Twitter.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that 201 patients died due to coronavirus in the first 13 days of April, in Vasai-Virar city. On being asked about the same, the Municipal Commissioner  did not consider the death reports from a private hospital, and mentioned that the government will rectify the error. On the other hand, 309 people were cremated in Thane cemeteries, but only 57 corona deaths have been reported. From this, it is understood that the Thackeray government is hiding the COVID-19 death toll, alleged Kirit Somaiya.

Besides this, Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation's mismanagement and corruption has once again come to the notice. BJP leader Prasad Lad shared the information on Twitter, on April 15, 2021, and targeted the BMC regarding the issue.

Over the last few days, at least 23 to 24 people have died due to lack of oxygen in Nalasopara and Vasai-Virar areas. In such a situation, when an attempt is made to contact the Commissioner as a representative of the people, no reply is received from the Commissioner. I urge the government not to make this a political matter, especially during the coronavirus crisis and request the Guardian Minister of Thane, Eknath Shinde, to inquire about shortage of oxygen at the Municipal Hospitals, mentioned Minister Lad.

He also pointed out the shortage of Remdesivir ans has given a strong warning to Commissioner Gangadharan asking him to work for the betterment of the people.
