Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis denied the allegation of phone tapping of senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress leaders during his government in the state.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis refuted the allegations levelled by Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh that the phone of non-BJP leaders was tapped during the 2019 Lok Sabha and Maharashtra assembly elections.

Fadnavis, who is the leader of the opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra legislative assembly, said that his government didn’t give any such orders and that it was not the culture of the state.

My government didn’t give any such orders. Phone tapping is not the culture of Maharashtra,” said Devendra Fadnavis.

The BJP leader further stated that the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government is free to conduct an inquiry into the matter.

People of Maharashtra know the truth and the whole country knows the credibility of those who have made such allegations,” Fadnavis said while taunting the Maharashtra government.

Earlier, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh alleged that the phones of the Opposition leaders were tapped during the Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Maharashtra, which were held last year.

The minister further stated said that Fadnavis-led government misused government machinery and that an investigation has been ordered regarding the same.

Earlier, Maharashtra Minister Jitendra Awhad took to Twitter to slam the previous BJP-led government while labelling the alleged phone tapping as “sick mentality” of the saffron party.
