On Thursday, September 16, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the government was not planning to increase curbs after Ganeshotsav.

Moreover, Tope urged citizens that there should be no lowering of guard during festivities. In addition, he emphasised that the officials keep close tabs on any rise in cases, especially in the districts of concern. 

At present, eight districts of Maharashtra has reported slight growth in the weekly positivity rate than the state's average. Besides, the COVID-19 growth rate is higher in the other eight districts of Maharashtra than the state average of 0.05 per cent. 

Tope said there could be a slight rise in cases next week, after festivities. However, ahead of the festivity, the state government had issued guidelines to ensure no overcrowding at public places.

In a TOI report, Tope had mentioned that the state public health department had directed to increase testing and vaccination in anticipation. 

A detailed note has been issued by the department to collectors and commissioners. They have to follow it. Along with testing, vaccination will be ramped up, Tope further stated. In the last five days, the number of COVID-19 tests was reduced due to the Ganpati festivals.
