Rashmi Thackeray, wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, on Sunday was named the editor of Shiv Sena mouthpiece – ‘Saamana’.

Earlier on November 28, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s name was dropped as the editor of ‘Saamana’ as he took oath as the chief minister of Maharashtra.

Rashmi Thackeray’s appointment as the editor of ‘Saamana’ comes after three months of Uddhav Thackeray stepping down from the post. Thackeray’s resignation as ‘Saamana’ editor came after he assumed the CMO and also to avoid conflict of interest as the newspaper receives government advertisements.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut will continue as the executive editor of the party’s mouthpiece. Raut has been working as the executive editor since 1990s and worked under the editorship of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray.

Bal Thackeray is named as the founding editor of ‘Saamana’ and Uddhav Thackeray was named as the editor of the newspaper after Bal Thackeray’s demise in November 2012.

However, Thackeray resigned from the post after assuming office as the chief minister of Maharashtra.

Sanjay Raut played a major role after 2019 Maharashtra assembly poll results, in claiming the Chief Ministerial post for Shiv Sena. Amid the political deadlock in Maharashtra, Raut was at the centre of conflict between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena.

After Shiv Sena got its way and formed an alternative government with Congress and NCP, it was speculated that Sunil Raut (Sanjay Raut’s brother) will get a ministerial post in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. However, this didn’t happen.

The Shiv Sena mouthpiece was launched in 1989 by Bal Thackeray. The Marathi daily is known for its editorials which have time and again criticised the ruling government in Maharashtra and in the centre.
