Maharashtra Government on Friday decided to provide five per cent reservation to Muslims in all educational institutes in the state. The decision was announced in the ongoing Maharashtra budget session.

While talking to the media, Nawab Malik informed that legislation to this effect will be passed soon in the Maharashtra legislative council.

Speaking in the upper house, Malik assured of taking “appropriate action” in this regard before the commencement of admissions in schools. This information was provided by Nawab Malik in response to the question raised by Congress MLA Sharad Ranpise.

The Uddhav Thackeray government recently withdrew cases registered against those who agitated while demanding reservation for the Maratha community. Shiv Sena had earlier promised that the cases filed against the protestors in Maratha reservation agitation. No criminal cases were withdrawn.

The Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government took charge November 28, with Uddhav Thackeray taking oath. MVA is a collation government between Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena. All the three parties had come with a common minimum program before taking office and had decided that they will be working on the topics listed in the same during this tenure.

Shiv Sena was earlier a partner of BJP. However, after the state elections the two parties that had been united for quite a while decided to part ways. Shiv Sena soon after went and formed the government with NCP and Congress. There is a constant war of words between Shiv Sena and BJP leaders. Even during the ongoing Budget session, BJP had decided to boycott the high tea that was hosted for all parties.

Earlier, Bombay High Court had upheld Muslim quota of five per cent in educational institutions. However, the Devendra Fadnavis government didn’t implement the judgment given by the HC.
