Maharashtra Minister Sanjay Bansode was tested positive for the coronavirus on Sunday and is getting treatment for COVID-19 at a private hospital in Mumbai city. Bansode is the sixth cabinet minister in the Uddhav Thackeray government to contract the infection.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Bansode represents the Udgir assembly constituency in Latur district. He is the Minister of State (MoS) for Environment, Water Supply and Public Works in the Uddhav Thackeray cabinet.

Bansode had undergone the test for COVID-19 after he complained of sore throat and mild fever on Saturday. His test results came back positive on Sunday. Bansode is the second MoS or junior minister in Maharashtra to contract the coronavirus after Shiv Sena leader Abdul Sattar who is the MoS for Revenue, Rural Development and Special Assistance.

Sattar, who represents the Sillod assembly constituency from Aurangabad, appealed those who were in close contact with him to get themselves tested for the coronavirus. He has self-quarantined himself at his residence in Mumbai.

Recently, Maharashtra Textile, Fisheries and Port Development Minister Aslam Shaikh also tested positive for the coronavirus. He informed that he is asymptomatic and has self-quarantined himself.

Of the six cabinet ministers, three have recovered from the coronavirus and have resumed their ministerial work while another three including Bansode are undergoing treatment.

Three cabinet ministers - Jitendra Awhad, Ashok Chavan and Dhananjay Munde - in the Uddhav Thackeray government had tested positive for the coronavirus earlier. However, they have all recovered and have taken charge of their ministerial work.
