Shiv Sena corporator Vitthal Lokare won the civic elections from Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar area seat. Lokare defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Bablu Panchal by a margin of 1,385 votes.
In the municipal by-election, Shiv Sena candidate Vitthal Lokare got 4,427 votes while BJP candidate Bablu Panchal only got 3,042 votes. The results were declared on Friday morning.
Despite Congress, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) being together at the state level, they contested the civic by-polls separately.
In Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar ward, there are a total of 18,054 male voters and 14,032 female voters while the total number of voters is 32,086.
However, only 13,476 voters exercised their right to vote in this by-election including 7,344 male and 6,132 female voters.

Lokare had resigned from Congress earlier in August 2019, to join Shiv Sena. Vitthal Lokare had also contested the assembly elections in October on Shiv Sena ticket but had to face defeat.
