Shiv Sena leader Rajendra Deolekar died at 54 due to the coronavirus on Tuesday night. He was admitted at a hospital and was shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Mumbai after his health condition worsened. 

Deolekar is survived by his wife and two daughters. He was the sitting Shiv Sena corporator from Milind Nagar and Gholap Nagar in Kalyan (West). He has also served as the former Mayor of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) earlier.

On Saturday, Jaywant Parab, a senior leader from the Shiv Sena and general secretary of the Indian Labor Army, also died. As per reports, he was suffering for a while from ill-health. The funeral of Jaywant Parab was held on Sunday.

The coronavirus cases in Maharashtra have been increasing on a daily basis and has become a matter of major concern. Till now, 12 ministers in the Uddhav Thackeray government have tested positive for the coronavirus. 

Recently, Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad tested positive for COVID-19. Within a week, three cabinet ministers in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government have tested positive for coronavirus. 

Maharashtra Minister of State (MoS) for Water Resources and Education, Bacchu Kadu was tested positive for the coronavirus. State Energy Minister Nitin Raut and Rural Development Minister Hasan Mushrif have also tested corona positive.

Of the 12 ministers, nine have recovered from the coronavirus and have resumed their ministerial work. Earlier, Jitendra Awhad, Ashok Chavan, Dhananjay Munde, Aslam Shaikh, Balasaheb Patil, Sunil Kedar, Abdul Sattar and Vishwajit Kadam from the Uddhav Thackeray government tested positive for the coronavirus.
