Shiv Sena on Tuesday attacked its alliance partner in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government over displeasure shown by senior Congress leaders Balasaheb Thorat and Ashok Chavan.

In an editorial published in ‘Saamana’, the Shiv Sena compared Congress with an old cot that yawps every now and then while accusing it of creating an atmosphere of instability amid the fight against coronavirus.

The editorial suggested Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray prepare himself to handle the complaints from Congress. “The cries of the cot are getting louder. The chief minister should prepare himself for the same,” it said.

Thackeray became the Chief Minister six months ago and many questions were raised on the stability of MVA government during its formation, the editorial read while adding that the internal trouble in an alliance made of three parties with different ideologies was inevitable.

Shiv Sena also said that the heavyweights in Congress should remember that Thackeray was elected as the Chief Minister and his decision is final in all matters. NCP chief Sharad Pawar and his leaders are not squeaking like Congress, it said.

The Congress leaders including Balasaheb Thorat and Ashok Chavan have expressed that there was some trouble in the MVA government and had sought a meeting with CM Thackeray to discuss the issues.

The issues pertain to Congress feeling left out from important decisions and meetings along with the problems related to the bureaucracy and the distribution of legislative council seats.

Reacting to this, the editorial in ‘Saamana’ said that the issue of Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta getting extensions could be up for discussion with the Chief Minister. “However, there were no complaints about any illegal work done in the government. The whole bureaucracy is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic,” Shiv Sena said.

Talking about the distribution of seats, Shiv Sena said that it had no problem in doing the same with respect to the party’s strength in the legislative assembly.
