Shiv Sena has positively responded to concerns raised by senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat after he met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday at the latter’s residence - ‘Matoshree’.

After the meeting, Thorat said that the alliance was stable while ruling out the 'speculations' that Congress was upset. Thorat was accompanied by his colleague and senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan in their meeting with Thackeray.

Thorat, the Revenue Minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, further said that Congress was not feeling left out while adding that there are some issues which could have been discussed face to face. “This is why we were seeking a meeting with the Chief Minister,” Thorat claimed.

In the meeting, the Maharashtra Congress President discussed the need to help poor amid coronavirus outbreak and implement Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY) scheme in Maharashtra which was first proposed by Rahul Gandhi during 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign.

He said that this scheme should be implemented across the whole country as people are suffering in the present conditions. The discussions were also focused on the compensation for those affected due to Cyclone Nisarga.

Thorat denied that there were no discussions over the bureaucracy and Congress was not upset due to the same. Thorat refused that Congress didn’t have any concerns regarding Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta.

According to media reports, on the issue of appointments to 12 legislative council seats in Maharashtra from the governor’s quota, he said that during the formation it was decided that these seats will be distributed equally. “So, there was no discussion on this issue,” Thorat added.

Earlier, Shiv Sena in an editorial published at ‘Saamana’ compared Congress with an old cot who yawps now and then.  The seats must be divided on the basis of the coalition partners’ strength in the Legislative Assembly, it said. Sena has 64 members, including eight independents, while the NCP and Congress have 54 and 44 members.
