Shiv Sena will be contesting the upcoming Bihar assembly elections “independently” and has fielded its candidates on 50 seats out of 243, Maharashtra Industries Minister Anil Desai informed. The elections in Bihar are scheduled to be held in three phases starting from October 28.

Desai said that Shiv Sena has fielded 50 candidates for the Bihar assembly elections and these candidates have been named from the constituencies where the party has a presence on the ground.

“We have fielded our candidates in constituencies where we have out cadre involved in public work. We will be contesting the Bihar assembly elections on around 50 seats,” Desai, senior Shiv Sena leader said.

Desai further informed that his party will contest the Bihar polls on a different symbol - “man blowing tura (trumpet)”. This comes after the Election Commission object to Shiv Sena’s ‘bow and arrow’ symbol due to its similarity with the symbol of Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United).

Details regarding the schedule for campaigning in Bihar will be provided by the party and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Desai informed.

The party earlier appointed 20 star campaigners which including Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and state Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray.

Thackeray and his son are not likely to campaign physically but virtually amid the coronavirus pandemic. Senior Shiv Sena leaders Sanjay Raut, Rahul Shewale, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Subhash Desai, Chandrakant Khaire will campaign for their candidates in Bihar.

The voting for assembly elections in Bihar will be held in three phases - October 28, November 3 and November 7 and the results will be declared on November 10.

For the first phase, the last date of withdrawal of nominations is October 12 while the last date to file the same was October 8. The last date to file and withdraw nominations is October 16 and 19 for the second phase, respectively.
