Renowned writer Shobhaa De on Wednesday opposed the Maharashtra government’s decision to grant ₹100 crore for Bal Thackeray Memorial. De took to Twitter to question the allocation of money for the memorial and the need to have the same.
The writer said that the money should be utilised for the benefit of people and for constructing schools and hospitals.
Give me a 100 crore grant , and as a citizen i will demonstrate how best to use it for the benefit of people. Who needs more memorials? We need hospitals and schools!

Earlier, Maharashtra government and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) decided to construct the Bal Thackeray Memorial at Mayor’s Bungalow in Shivaji Park, Dadar. The foundation stone for the same was laid on Wednesday in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar and his residence has been temporarily shifted to Rani Baug bungalow in Byculla.
