After the rebellion of Eknath Shinde, the Election Commission had given Eknath Shinde the right to use the name of the Shiv Sena party and the bow and arrow symbol. After which Uddhav Thackeray filed a petition against it in the Supreme Court. In his petition, Uddhav Thackeray has contended that the Election Commission has failed to appreciate that the petitioner enjoys overwhelming support from party workers and workers.


The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear Uddhav Thackeray's plea against the Election Commission's order allotting party name 'Shiv Sena' and its election symbol 'bow and arrow' to the Eknath Shinde faction on July 31. A bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud told Uddhav's counsel that "it is listed on July 31, we will hear it on that day".

Earlier, on February 22, the Supreme Court had summoned Shinde and the EC to file their reply on Thackeray's plea within two weeks and directed the matter to be listed after three weeks.

He also criticised Shinde for his mishandling during monsoon situation. He also claimed that Mumbai's infrastructure had collapsed under his watch. Furthermore, Thackeray accused the Shinde government of engaging in favouritism and indulging in corruption during the selection of officials.
