Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Friday took a dig at the Narendra Modi-led central government saying that there are only two governors in the country - one in Maharashtra and another in West Bengal.

“A governor is the political agent of the central government and President of India. The Governor is indulged in the political work. There are only two governors in the country - one in Maharashtra and another in West Bengal. The opposition has formed a government in these states. I don’t know about others,” Raut said.

His remarks come after Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari sent a political letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray demanding the reopening of temples in the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has become aggressive against the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in their demand to reopen the temples for devotees. The saffron party in Maharashtra has demanded the Governor to intervene and direct the state government to restart temples.

In an editorial published in ‘Saamana’ earlier, Shiv Sena slammed the BJP saying that they have been “exposed” for using the governor’s office for attacking the state government.

Sena asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah that Governor Koshyari should be recalled if they wish to save the “prestige” of Raj Bhavan.

“There is a need for a national policy to reopen temples. The Prime Minister should come forward and say that temples across the country should open from tonight. We will do it. We have always followed the Prime Minister’s advise during a crisis,” Raut said.
