Mumbai - BJP had promised to make Maharashtra toll-free but as per the information obtained by a RTI report, toll free Mumbai looks a distant dream. The report states that Maharashtra will face losses of Rs 14 thousand crores if the toll is abolished. This amount will have to be paid to the Mumbai entry point and ultimately the motorists only have to shell out the same.
The state government had set up a committee under the additional chief secretary Anand Kulkarni to look into the abolition of toll issue. However, his report was not taken into consideration, upon his retirement. Later, another committee was set up under Sumit Malik but his report is still not been approved by state government. Also, both Kulkarni and Malik reports statistics do not match.
