On the second day of the budget session in Maharashtra, the opposition on Tuesday yet again protested against the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government over the issues of farmers and the rising crime against women.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra organised protests outside 400 tehsil offices in various parts of the state against the “in-efficient” administration of the Uddhav Thackeray government while condemning the atrocities committed against women.

Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra legislative assembly and former Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis led the protest at Azad Maidan. Among other party leaders, State BJP President Chandrakant Patil was also present at the protest.

The BJP held protests outside 400 tehsil offices. This happened after the Uddhav Thackeray government released the first list of farm loan waiver.

In the first list, nearly nine thousand farmers have been named in the farm loan waiver. The loan amount ranging between ₹10,000 and ₹2.5 lakh will be waived under the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Shetkari Karjamukti Yojana.

The process to provide loan waiver for farmers will be completed in three months. After the first, more list of farm loan waiver will be released. CM Uddhav Thackeray informed that the whole process will be completed by April end.

However, the BJP said that the MVA government has discarded all welfare programmed introduced by the previous Devendra Fadnavis government in Maharashtra and “has taken farmers for a ride”.

The BJP also submitted a memorandum to Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari saying that the not even a single farmer has got relief and compensation for unseasonal rainfall.

“The government had promised ₹25,000 per hectare and ₹50,000 per hectare relief for crop loss. However, it has only remained on paper,” the memorandum read.

In a statement, the BJP stated that there is an increase in crime against women ever since MVA government assumed office. Chandrakant Patil had informed that over 2.5 lakh party workers, farmers and women took part in the protest.
