Maharashtra Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik on Wednesday stated that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was right in saying that no proposal regarding 5 per cent reservation to Muslims in the education sector has come before the state government.

Malik said that he made an announcement regarding Muslim quota in Maharashtra legislative council while responding to a query. The query regarding the same was raised in the upper house by Congress MLA Sharad Ranpise.

“The proposal regarding Muslim quota will be made consulting the law and judiciary after which it will go before the cabinet. We had announced Muslim quota in response to a question raised in the legislative council. Chief Minister (Uddhav Thackeray) is right in saying that there is no proposal yet,” Nawab Malik said.

Earlier, Nawab Malik had announced that the Muslims will get 5 per cent reservation in the educational institutions and legislative to this effect will be passed in the ongoing budget session.

However, CM Uddhav Thackeray later remarked that no proposal regarding the Muslim quota has come before the Maharashtra government.

“No such proposal regarding Muslim reservation has come before the Maharashtra government. We will check its authenticity after it comes to us. We have not taken any decision on it yet but some people are already banging their heads on it,” CM Thackeray said.

Maharashtra Minister and state NCP President, Jayant Patil also informed that all three parties in the MVA government will sit together before taking a decision on the same.
