Twice in arrears CAG (Comptroller & Auditor General of India), New Delhi  back in splendid fashion to hold Hockey Family Badhkhalsa (HFB), Haryana to a 2-2 draw in the concluding Group-B league match of the 15th All India Guru Tegh Bahadur Gold Cup Hockey Tournament 2019, at the MHAL Stadium, Churchgate on Tuesday.

Earlier, Union Bank of India, Mumbai defeated Mumbai Customs also from Mumbai by a 4-2 margin in another match of the same group.

CAG topped the group with 5 points and qualified for the semi-finals. HFB and Union Bank finished with an identical tally of 4 points each from a win and draw. The Haryana outfit with a better goal-differential of plus 3 (Gf 8, Ga 5) as compared to Union Bank’s minus 3 (Gf 6, Ga 9) clinched the second spot and joined CAG in the next round.

HFB started with a bang taking the lead through a field effort from Pankaj S. in the very second minute. CAG restored parity when Govind Singh Rawat converted from a penalty corner in the 23rd minute.

The determined Haryana side once again grabbed the lead with Pankaj deflecting home a pass from the left in the 35th minute. CAG fought on gamely and for the second time drew level when Rawat scored from another penalty corner in the 60th minute to help his team force a draw.

Earlier, Bhakar Ningombam scored two goals to inspire Union Bank to victory. Prince Chaurasia and Ganesh Patil scored the other two goals to script Union Bank’s win. Mumbai Customs scored through Hassan Basha and a late strike by Jayesh Jadhav.

Results (Group-B):

Union Bank of India 4 (Bhakar Ningombam 26,57, Prince Chaurasia 51, Ganesh Patil 58) Beat Mumbai Customs 2(Hassan Basha 33, Jayesh Jadhav 69).

Hockey Family Badhkhalsa, Haryana 2 (Pankaj S. 2) drew with Comptroller & Auditor General of India, New Delhi 2 (Govind Singh Rawat 2).
