From September 1, 2018, customers will be able to demand bills at the catering stalls situated at railway stations. The Central Railway authorities have given a deadline of August 31, 2018, to static catering stalls to install point of sale (POS) and/or electronic billing machines and issue bills.

Along with this, these stalls will have to paste stickers stating 'Food Free, Without Bill', so that customers will be informed about the same. This simply means that commuters can demand bills even for simple foods such as bhel, samosa or vada pav or tea. The CR officials have made it clear to the stall owners that if they refuse to give bills, then the customer would not be charged for the food.

A CR official said that if a customer demands a bill, then these stalls cannot refuse them the same. He added that it will be difficult to monitor all stalls in the beginning but there will be no instances of overcharging. The CR officials have asked the customers to complain in case the stalls refuse to give bills. They will also take action against the stalls which will fail to comply with this rule.
