Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has acquired a part of land where businessman K.V. Satyamurthy's residence stands and the pending part is of Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan's bungalow. The project is of connecting Chandan Cinema to Link Road and widening Sant Dyaneshwar Marg.

As stated in the Times of India, the BMC is widening Sant Dnyaneshwar Marg, which connects the Chandan Cinema area to Link Road, from 45 ft to 60 ft. The work is almost done except the stretch in front of the building and Bachchan’s house.

Amitabh Bachchan had also been issued a notice last year as the BMC needed a portion of the land around his bungalow Prateeksha for the road-widening project but he is yet to reply to it.

Satyamurthy had refused to part with 115 sq m of the 420 sq m plot on which his building stands despite having used the incentives offered for it. The BMC gives incentives to owners in the form of extra construction rights or in monetary form when they give up land for a public project. BMC officials said Satyamurthy and Bachchan’s cases were different, as Satyamurthy had built three floors of the seven-storey Satyamurthy's Residency in excess of civic permission. He even failed to surrender the land for road widening after utilising its incentive and using it illegally for the past 15 years.

Whereas in Bachchan’s case, the officials yet have to discuss the issues with him. Satyamurthy's plea for relief was rejected by a city civil court in March and by the high court on Tuesday.
