The Maharashtra government is slated to transform the humongous Worli dairyland of 14.5 acres into a state-of-the-art aquarium, marine research and exhibition centre, reported the Times of India. State Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray is claimed to have instructed the urban development department to alter the land reservation.

According to the report, sources elaborated that in the arriving days, the state government under the MRTP Act 37 (1), make a public notification, seeking recommendations and objections.

Through the proposal, 11 acres of the land will be transcended into a range of facilities for the public that comprises an aquarium. The left-over portion will be kept by the commissioner’s office of the dairy, but the diary will be moved to Kurla. An officer added that the area hasn’t been utilized to its full extent for many years and even the milk processed here is of small quantity, stated the narrative.

The report quoted a senior official saying that the government believes that the land isn’t being used properly since the dairy activities have diminished. The officer further elaborated that whilst the state animal husbandry department had opposed the move of operations, Thackeray managed to convince them. Interestingly, the area falls under Aaditya Thackeray’s constituency.

It is expected that the government will either give the land to the Birhanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) or the tourism department after a formal decision regarding the alteration of the land reservation is undertaken, highlighted the account.

It was in March 2020 that Ajit Pawar had proclaimed the activity on the Worli Dairyland in his budget speech, to woe tourists. Through the years, it is claimed, that many builders have had their eyes set on the property owing to its prime location. The property is alleged to be of exorbitant amounts not only because of its location, but size.

Reports claim that the state government was once considering monetizing the land to acquire money for the metro projects. Apart from Worli, the diary department has considerable properties in Goregaon and Kurla.
