According to reports, with coronavirus cases in Mumbai crossing the one lakh mark, wards that entail Andheri (W), Juhu, Vile Parle (E), Jogeshwari (E) and Borivali have become hotspots. 

In accordance with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) COVID-19 dashboard, K-West includes parts of Andheri West, Juhu, Lokhandwala and Oshiwara topped the list of 24 wards with the highest number of active cases at 10,707. 

This is trailed by K-East ward that includes Vile Parle east, Jogeshwari east and certain parts of Andheri east at 7,038. This is followed by R-Central Ward that entails Borivali, Gorai and Magathane at 4,555.

It is interesting to note that these three wards have one of the highest population densities at 7.2 lakh, 8.2 lakh and 5.6 lakh, respectively, reports stated. 

Earlier last week, it was reported that all the residents of sealed buildings in the K-West ward that comprises the western suburb of Andheri (W) will have to undergo a mandatory rapid antigen test (RAT) for coronavirus detection. Based on the letter, issued by the civic authority action will be taken if the residents refuse to follow the instructions. 

In other developments, Mumbai on January 9 reported 19,474 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This is nearly 4 per cent lower than a day earlier, January 8, which recorded 20,318 cases.
