Mumbai - Ambulances in civic hospitals are now old and have lost their ignition. The court has ordered BMC to not use the old ambulances, which may not serve its purpose of taking patients to hospitals in no time irrespective of traffic congestion. BMC has issued proposal of buying eight new ambulances on the contract costing 3.46 crore rupees. Kamgar Union drivers who are driving ambulances now are opposing this proposal, as they will no more be employed. In present we have -

Eastern Suburbs - Ordinary - 18
Special -1
Western Suburbs - Ordinary - 6
Special - 3
This no. of ambulances is a reality check of the facilities provided by civic body, that's the very reason why BMC has ordered ambulances on contract
