Expressing its displeasure over the mockery of Indian National Congress (INC) leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Sonia Gandhi in an advertisement of a food and beverages, the Congress workers staged a protest in front of the office of the Story Food Company in Mumbai.

According to reports, Mumbai Congress party workers vandalised the office of a food and beverages company Storia Foods and Beverages at Andheri (E) on Tuesday, April 27. Meanwhile, the group, led by Nitin Sawant, general secretary of Mumbai Congress, carried flags and chanted slogans during their protest.

MIDC police registered an FIR against eight party workers and detained them. Some party workers were not wearing masks. However, in this regards, eight people have been arrested for violating Section 144 imposed due to coronavirus pandemic.

The Congress unit’s press statement said, “Storia Foods company has made an advertisement in which they have shown defamatory images of Congress leader and former president Rahul Gandhi and incumbent Congress President Sonia Gandhi."

After the incident, in support of the protest, Jagtap tweeted, “Congratulations and appreciation to Mumbai Congress General Secretary Nitin Sawant and Youth Congress workers for responding to the defamation of Revered Soniaji Gandhi and Revered Rahul ji Gandhi by STORIA Company through advertisements. It should be noted that such dirty trades will not be tolerated.”

In the statement, Jagtap was quoted as saying, “This advertisement should be immediately banned and Storia Foods should publicly apologise. Otherwise, the Mumbai Congress will stage an even bigger agitation. We will ensure that the Storia Foods office is shut.”

As the company did not press any charges, police only booked the party workers for violating COVID-related guidelines.
