BJP leaders continue to flout COVID-19 guidelines during the Jan Ashirwad Yatra

As per reports, a total of seven new FIRs have been registered across several police stations in Mumbai, whereby officials have noted that BJP leaders and workers have disobeyed the COVID-19 rules and continued the rally risking everyone's safety.

Seven new FIRs have been registered against the leaders from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who were known to allegedly violate coronavirus (COVID-19) rules imposed by the state government, during the ongoing Jan Ashirwad Yatra. 

The yatra has been organised by  Union Minister Narayan Rane and this is being held across several areas in the city of Mumbai. Observing the violations, Mumbai Police has taken strict action against the ones flouting rules. Reports state that the officials had filed 17 new FIRs earlier and until Friday, August 20, 2021, there were 19 more FIRs against the members.

The Yatra began on Thursday, August 19, 2021, and since then a total of 36 FIRs have been registered by the officials. The recently filed 17 complaints have been registered across several police stations like Powai, Ghatkopar, Saki Naka, Borivali, Vikhroli, Mulund, MIDC, Charkop, Bhandup, Goregaon and a few others.

Similar events are being carried out by BJP leaders across the country and over the last few days, Jan Ashirwad Yatra was organised in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, etc. Reports state that Anurag Thakur is conducting the same in Himachal, while Bhupendra Yadav  and Jyotiraditya Scindia have taken the yatra in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The event in Mumbai was led by Narayan Rane and other leaders from Devendra Fadnavis, Praveen Darekar have shown participation.

Officials state that the yatra was organised by the BJP despite the restrictions imposed by the Mumbai Police. Several leader from the opposition also slammed the BJP since the event was carried out during the ongoing pandemic. On Friday, August 20, 2021, Congress leaders Ashok Chavan and Bhai Jagtap had slammed the party for disregarding the pandemic situation iand holding the rally.

However, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde had also refuted BJP's claims imposed by the Maharashtra government and asserted that Covid-19 guidelines are being followed by all the people irrespective of the political background. 

Meanwhile, Rane himself on Friday, August 20, 2021, condemned the state government for its failure to tackle the pandemic and said he would continue this rally despite FIRs being filed against the members during the yatra.
