“We are interested in overthrowing the MVA government. We are focusing on the battle against coronavirus. But why shout every day? Try to run the government at least,” Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis said while responding to the allegations of ‘Operation Lotus’ levelled by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
On Monday, Fadnavis was speaking at the first meeting of the state executive of BJP. Several leaders including Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra legislative council, Praveen Darekar was also present at the occasion.
Earlier, in an interview with Shiv Sena leader and Executive Editor of ‘Saamana’ Sanjay Raut, Thackeray dared the opposition to try and topple his government.
The Chief Minister said, “some people get pleasure in toppling governments as they derive their pleasure in destructive work. But I dare the opposition to try toppling my government. Why wait for September or October?”
Reacting to this, Fadnavis said that Thackeray should try to run his government before daring the opposition. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government was not elected by the people, but came to power by betrayal, he asserted.
“We have accepted the role of the opposition and if your (government) direction of working is wrong, it is our job to correct you. We are not interested in toppling the MVA government,” Fadnavis said.
Meanwhile, Fadnavis also took a dig at Thackeray over his “three-wheeler (auto-rickshaw) government” remark saying that the driver doesn’t get to decide where the rickshaw will go.
“Those who sit at the back decided where the auto-rickshaw will go, not the driver,” Fadnavis taunted Thackeray while speaking in the meeting with office-bearers of BJP’s state unit.
