On Wednesday, various Dalit organisations had called for a Maharashtra bandh to protest against the Bhima Koregaon incident. A lot of Dalit party workers got on to the streets and staged their protests. Stone pelting incidents took place at various places where BEST buses were made the target. At the same time, the protest affected railways as well.
Where Dalit party workers took the protest to streets, on another hand, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis chose to stay away from the whole scenario. He did not even appeal to the people to maintain peace.
When the protest was getting out of hands, Deepak Kesarkar, MoS, Home Rural made an appeal asking people to maintain peace and handle things with patience. Along with this, he promised that he will punish those who are guilty.
Along with the Maharashtra Bandh issue, the Bhima Koregaon issue was discussed in Loksabha. Here, Congress accused both the BJP and RSS of Bhima Koregaon incident while BJP accused Congress of creating communal tension.
After the Dalit leader Dr Prakash Ambedkar called off the protest, Maha CM Devendra Fadnavis spoke on the issue saying that he will investigate the CCTV in Bhima Koregaon incident and will punish the guilty.
