Ahead of Maharashtra elections next year, Indian National Congress (INC) on Wednesday announced to bar alliance with National Congress Party (NCP) if it reaches out to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for an association.

Mumbai Congress President, Sanjay Nirupam clarified that they don't intend to form an alliance with Raj Thackeray’s MNS for the upcoming elections.

The Congress won’t be a part of any alliance that associates with MNS,” Sanjay Nirupam, Mumbai Congress President.

Nirupam stated that the Congress party won’t join hands with any other party which is not ideologically at par with them - be it Shiv Sena, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). Nirupam suggested Sharad Pawar-led NCP to not associate with Raj Thackeray’s MNS. “We are looking forward to an alliance with the NCP,” he further informed.

Reacting to this, NCP leader Sunil Tatkare said that Nirupam needs to understand Sharad Pawar's politics.

Earlier, the speculations of NCP collaborating with INC for the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections was all over the media.

However, a new development in the area of Maharashtra politics has taken place with the formation of friendly relations between Sharad Pawar and Raj Thackeray after their recent interview and meeting.

Nirupam has accused MNS of inciting hatred against the north Indians with their agenda of “sons of the soil”. In the light of recent attacks on Gujarati signboard outside the shops, he has requested the Maharashtra government to protect the Gujarati businessmen from the hooliganism of MNS.
