The Shiv Sena Bhavan has been shut down from Monday after a Shiv Sainik was tested positive for the coronavirus or COVID-19. The party worker who tested positive was a regular visitor at the Sena headquarter in Dadar.

The decision to close down the party headquarter has been taken as part of the precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. This would ensure the safety of the Sena leaders and workers who visit regularly to the central office of the party.

The Sena Bhavan has offices of various sects of the party and the office-bearers frequently visit the Dadar building. Therefore, the building has been closed from Monday for safety reasons.

With the building closed, the routine party work held at Sena Bhavan will also be halted as the sanitisation process is ongoing. The Sena functionaries have been asked to not visit the central office as the building will remain sealed for more than a week.

This comes days after Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray visited the Shiv Sena Bhavan on the occasion of party’s 54th foundation day. Thackeray had addressed the party workers and leaders via video conferencing while some were present at the venue.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Minister Dhananjay Munde was also tested positive for the coronavirus. However, he was discharged from the hospital recently. Munde became the third cabinet minister in the Uddhav Thackeray government to test positive for COVID-19 after Ashok Chavan and Jitendra Awhad.

Maharashtra has been the worst-hit state due to the coronavirus outbreak. As of June 23 morning, the number of cases in the state has risen to 1,35,796 and the death toll has reached 6,283.

In Mumbai alone, the number of COVID-19 cases has increased 67,586 while the death toll in the financial capital has touched 3,737. Of the 3,721 COVID-19 cases reported in Maharashtra, nearly 1,098 cases have been recorded in Mumbai alone.
