Leader of Opposition (LoP) Devendra Fadnavis, who began his two-day visit to Konkan region on Thursday, met Maharashtra Chief Minister on Saturday and submitted a ground assessment report of the situation in the cyclone-hit region.

A delegation led by Fadnavis met Thackeray and submitted a memorandum seeking assistance for the people affected in the Konkan region due to Cyclone Nisarga. Fadnavis was accompanied by LoP in Maharashtra legislative council Praveen Darekar, BJP MLA Ashish Shelar.

"I toured the Konkan region for 2 days. We told the Chief Minister about the situation there which is bad. The destruction has been caused to horticulture including coconut, betel and nuts tress and the relief provided to farmers is less. We have appealed Uddhav Thackeray to change the system or rules to provide relief to the affected," Fadnavis said while talking to reporters.

He further highlighted that the compensation to fishermen in cyclone-hit areas should also be increased. as their boat and other material which have been damaged will cost over ₹1 lakh to fix.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Fadnavis visited Raigad and Ratnagiri district on Thursday and Friday, respectively and to assess the damage caused by Cyclone Nisarga.

His visit comes after the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar concluded his two-day visit to the Konkan region. Earlier, Maharashtra BJP President had informed that LoP in state legislative council - Pravin Darekar - had also surveyed the cyclone-hit areas.

Fadnavis’ ground report regarding the damage caused in these districts will focus on the troubles being faced by the locals and will suggest the immediate measures which are necessary to provide relief to those affected by the cyclone.

The former Chief Minister concluded his tour of the Konkan region on Friday in Ratnagiri. While talking to the reporters in Dhapoli, Fadnavis said that the political leadership in Maharashtra needs to step up to provide relief to people who have lost their livelihood and houses in the cyclone.

Fadnavis claimed that the ground assessment carried out by them shows that there is no presence of administration in the cyclone-hit region. He said that he doesn’t wish to target the Chief Minister or anyone else but highlighted the need for the ruling party to help those affected.

Stating that the State Disaster Relief Fund should reach out to people who have suffered the most due to the natural calamity, Fadnavis demanded the state government to provide ₹10,000 to the affected families as cash relief.

Moreover, the BJP leader pointed out that the losses suffered by fishermen have been missed by the government while stating that they won’t be able to raise money for their losses by themselves.
