After his two-day visit to Konkan region, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray earlier to discuss the relief package for those affected in Raigad and Ratnagiri district which suffered the most due to Cyclone Nisarga.

Pawar visited several villages in the Raigad and Ratnagiri district on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively and interacted with the locals along with the local representatives and officials to take stock of the damage caused by the cyclone.

During his visit, Pawar assured that the state government would soon provide relief for those affected due to the cyclone including farmers and residents. The NCP chief also sought aid from the central government as well while saying that he won’t demand a separate package from the centre.

Pawar had informed that the administrative machinery in Maharashtra has not been able to reach every affected area which has caused a delay in the preliminary assessment of the damage caused due to Cyclone Nisarga. Moreover, it was recording the damages which have been caused to the orchards, farms and houses in the district.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has already announced an immediate relief fund worth ₹200 crore for three districts - Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg - which have been affected due to Cyclone Nisarga.

The CMO Maharashtra clarified that Raigad will get ₹100 crores while Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg will receive ₹75 crores and ₹25 crores, respectively.

Pawar was accompanied by Lok Sabha MP from Raigad Sunil Tatkare during his visit in the Konkan region. Tatkare informed that Pawar briefed Thackeray regarding the huge losses and damage caused by the cyclone.

Pawar has asked the Chief Minister to consider the aspect of destroyed horticulture trees and farms while compensating those affected. Along with this, the NCP chief said that the electricity should be restored in these areas at the earliest.
