Focus on Antibody testing in Maharashtra: MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar tells government

Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has demanded the Uddhav Thackeray government to increase the number of antibody tests being carried out in the state. MNS leader Bala Nangaonkar made this demand saying that a large number of people have become infected due to the coronavirus and many haven’t even noticed it.

“We urged the state government to focus on anti-body testing in the entire state. Many surveys have suggested that a huge number of people were infected with the coronavirus and many didn’t even notice it,” Nandgaonkar said.

Experts have said that more tests should be carried out in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus. However, the opposition in Maharashtra has accused the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government of not testing enough and covering up deaths.

More than 130 coronavirus testing laboratories have been set up in Maharashtra and the government is focusing on antigen and swab testing in rural and urban parts of the state. However, the opposition claims that the number of tests should be increased.

Meanwhile, Nandgaonkar said that there was no need for people who have overcome the coronavirus to stay at home as they don’t spread the virus. “Through these tests, you (government) will notice that a large part of the population has overcome the coronavirus. There is no need for such people to stay at home,” he tweeted in Marathi.

The MNS further urged the state government to reduce the price of antibody testing which costs around ₹1,000. Nandgaonkar said that if the rates are reduced, people will volunteer in getting themselves tested.
