Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday announced that he will not be celebrating his birthday this year in view of the coronavirus pandemic and urged people to not come to his residence or office to extend greetings.

Thackeray, the Shiv Sena chief, will turn 60 this year on July 27 and has announced that he won’t celebrate his birthday owing to the coronavirus crisis. He has asked his supporters to not spend money on posters and banners for his birthday.

Moreover, the Chief Minister has urged his supporters and party workers to avoid crowding and not come at his residence or office to extend greetings for his birthday. He has appealed his supporters to organise blood and plasma donation camps and contribute the money to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

“The money should be contributed to the Chief Minister’s relief fund instead of being spent on garlands. Health camps including blood and plasma donation camps should be organised,” Thackeray appealed while adding that there should be no crowd as the state was still fighting the coronavirus crisis.

Earlier, Maharashtra Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray had also cancelled his birthday celebrations on June 13 owing to the coronavirus outbreak while urging Shiv Sena workers and leaders to contribute money to the CMRF.

Moreover, Maharashtra Navniman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray had also cancelled his birthday celebrations on June 14 while addressing party workers that celebrations during coronavirus crisis don’t feel right.

As of July 22, Maharashtra remains one the worst hit-states in India due to the coronavirus outbreak with 3,33,7607 COVID-19 cases while the death toll has touched 12,556. In Mumbai, the number of coronavirus cases has increased to 1,04,678 and nearly 5,875 fatalities have been reported. On Wednesday, Maharashtra reported 10,576 fresh COVID-19 cases and 280 deaths.
