After Maharashtra government implemented the Maratha Reservation Act, it advertised the mega-recruitment programme with 72,000 vacant posts. However, the mega-recruitment was stalled after state government on Wednesday submitted an affidavit to Bombay High Court.

The affidavit stated that if the recruitment process is initiated, the candidates will be defied from the appointment letter. This happened after a petition seeking the cancellation of 16 per cent reservation provided to Maratha community was filed in Bombay HC by two advocates, including Jayshree Patil and Gunaratna Sadavarte.

While hearing the matter, Bombay HC narrated that they will hear the matter on January 23, 2019, and until then, the government will not be able to put their recruitment programme to action. Earlier on December 10, Bombay HC slammed the state government for advertising their mega-recruitment programme questioning the hurry to advertise the same despite the Maratha reservation matter being pending in the court.

The petition filed states that the 16 per cent reservation provided to Maratha community defies the Supreme Court’s decision that the reservation quota shall not exceed 50 per cent.

Meanwhile, the petitioners demanded that the Maratha Reservation State Backward Class Commission report be submitted in the court. The court also directed the state government to submit the report. However, the state government has said that they will submit the reservation report but has refused to share the same with the petitioners.
