In a substantial development, Anil Deshmukh, State Home Minister, has announced an ambitious project to build 1 lakh houses for the state police force in view of the growing demand for houses from police officers and staff.

According to sources, before independence, the state had 48 per cent households. However, only 42 per cent of the houses were built later. Maharashtra Police Housing Association has submitted three different proposals to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to address the housing shortage, Deshmukh further informed.

Moreover, a proposal to complete the construction of the Police Headquarters and Commissioner's Office buildings in Nagpur and to start cavalry is under consideration. Apart from cameras, self-balancing scooters will also be made available to the police. Furthermore, Deshmukh added that the state police force will use the latest technology to control cybercrime. In addition, 112 emergency services would be launched in Mumbai soon and a second control room would be set up in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police Hemant Nagarale talking about the work of the Police Housing Society informed that the construction of police stations and residences at Hingana, Hudkeshwar, Imamwada, Navin Kamathi is underway. He further added that there are 2,20,000 thousand police personnel in the state and there are very few houses in comparison. As per reports, Hemant Nagarale also expressed optimism in Home Minister Anil Deshmukh stating that he will try to provide accommodation to over 70,000 policemen.
