On Tuesday, the NCP stated that they wished for the extension of timings for shops and restaurants amid the approaching festivities and will make a formal request to state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, reported the Hindustan Times.

The chief spokesperson, NCP, Nawab Malik stated that the resolution would prove advantageous for owners of shops and restaurants considering the monetary losses they may have faced due to the bandh. In addition, they have also decided to make their stand against the BJP as well as the central investigation agencies for he believes they are allegedly being misused against them.

On Tuesday, a meeting was headed by Sharad Pawar wherein this decision was undertaken. It is anticipated that Pawar will conduct an interaction on Wednesday with the media.

At present, in the island city, restaurants and shops are allowed to keep their doors open till 10 pm. Interestingly these timings differ across districts in Maharashtra since the government has accorded the power to the local bodies to decide the timings of the establishments based on their respective situations.

According to the report, Malik told the reporters that the party determined the extension of timings of the establishments since they incurred losses due to the bandh. He added that they wanted the timings to be increased considering the approaching festivities which will be suggested to the Chief Minister for a final decision to be undertaken. He further elucidated on how this will be advantageous and offer relief to the owners of the establishments.

Malik also said that the BJP is abusing several central agencies to create a nuisance for their leaders, elaborating that in the meeting they decided to face the action and stand by the affected leaders.

The I-T Department last week conducted searches in sites of many sugar mills, real estate groups some of which are attached to Ajit Pawar the deputy CM and his sisters.
