Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Nana Patole has recently ordered to initiate the recruitment process in the higher educational institutions in the state. He said that the recruitment for over 100 posts should be carried out in accordance with the central government’s rule and regulations. 

The cabinet should submit a proposal on recruitment and promotion policy to safeguard the rights conferred by the constitution and to address the injustice that has been done to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) for the last 25 years, Patol said while speaking at the meeting. 

Patole chaired a meeting organised at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai to address the issues of OBCs, socially and educationally backward classes (SEBC) for direct recruitment in the Maharashtra government. The meeting was attended by Maharashtra OBC Minister Vijay Wadettiwar. 

The speaker further suggested no injustice should be done to any section of the society including OBCs, SEBC in the recruitment and promotion process. He instructed the cabinet to take the decision as per the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal without doing injustice to SC, ST and OBCs. 

“The General Administration, the Law and Justice Department will play an important role in this regard. Considering the tradition of progressive thinking in Maharashtra, it should be taken care that no injustice is done to any section of the society (in the recruitment process),” Patole asserted. 

The meeting was attended by former speaker Haribhau Rathore, OBC leader Prakash Shendge, General Administration Secretary Shivaji Jondhale, Law and Justice Secretary and Legislative Secretary Rajendra Bhagwat.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has assured that the reservation for Maratha community in jobs and education will not affect the quota for OBCs. This came amid concerns of OBC community in Maharashtra regarding their reservation quota.

Thackeray said that a meeting between representatives of the OBC community and the state’s advocate general to allay and address the doubts on the issue.
