Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has claimed that ₹400 crores have already been spent on the metro 3 car shed which was proposed to be built in Aarey. However, these claims are being questioned.
Environmentalist Zoru Bhathena, who campaigned against the decision to cut trees in Aarey, has denied the claims made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader. Bhathena gave an account of ₹70 crores which have been utilised and asked Fadnavis about the remaining amount.
Analysing the data provided by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) under Right to Information (RTI) Act, Bhathena said that ₹5 crores have been spent on cutting trees for the car shed, ₹27 crores for land levelling, ₹2 crores for building drainage line and pipelines, ₹17 crores for construction of temporary sheds, ₹20 crores for cement.

“We wonder where the balance Rs 330 Crores went?” Bhathena asked Fadnavis.
Earlier, Fadnavis has strongly objected to the decision of transferring metro 3 car shed from Aarey to Kanjurmarg. He accused the Uddhav Thackeray government of incurring heavy expenditure on this work.
Fadnavis said that the decision to shift metro 3 car shed from Aarey to Kanjurmarg was “unfortunate” and driven to “satisfy ego”. He said that the committee appointed by Thackeray government estimated that this action will increase the cost of the project by ₹4,000 crores.
The BJP leader said that the Kanjurmarg site was a “marshy land” and will require at least two years to stabilise. The cost for the metro project was ₹2,400 crores in 2015 and it will increase, the former CM said while adding that all previous tenders will have to be scraped and the new process will be followed.
