MNS leader shot dead by 2 unidentified bikers in Thane

According to the CCTV footage showed, the pillion rider, dressed in a pink shirt, fired at Shaikh, who collapsed on the spot. The MNS president of the Rabodi ward, was rushed to a local hospital, where he was declared dead.

A Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader shot dead by two unidentified persons in Thane. The incident took place in Thane's Rabodi area, on Monday, said a police official. The deceased Jameel Shaikh, 49, was the president of a civic ward in the city.

Jameel had left from his residence on the bike. His two assailants were also riding on a bike. Shaikh was shot in his head near Bismillah Hotel around 2:30 pm in Rabodi. The men who took a shot Jameel still remain unidentified and they fled from the scene soon after taking a shot. 

According to the CCTV footage showed, the pillion rider, dressed in a pink shirt, fired at Shaikh, who collapsed on the spot. The MNS president of the Rabodi ward, was rushed to a local hospital, where he was declared dead.

A case of murder was registered at Rabodi police station. Officials said that, based on the CCTV footage, a probe is underway.

Jameel was an MNS local ward unit chief from Uthalsar in Thane. His family and the party leaders claimed that he was targeted because of his opposition against a cluster development project.

Jameel Shaikh is survived by his wife and two daughters – aged 3 and 6.

This is the second time in a month that an MNS leader has been killed. About three weeks ago, Rakesh Patil, vice-president of MNS’s Ambernath unit, had been stabbed to death by four persons. Last month, in October, another MNS leader, Manoj Shelar, also from Ambernath, had been attacked in October.
