While there are talks going on whether to impose to lockdown or night curfew amid rising coronavirus cases, the state minister Nawab Malik also stressed the need for cooperation from people's side to control the virus.

Nawab Malik said that no decision on lockdown in Mumbai, but people have to cooperate, otherwise, strict action will be taken.

On the other hand, Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh said that even as the coronavirus cases are on the rise, the situation in Mumbai is still under control. He also stated that a lockdown can be avoided by imposing stricter restrictions for now.

In a virtual meeting with the state Chief Ministers, PM Modi urged on the need to take quick decisive steps. He said, "We need to soon stop the emerging second peak of corona". He also stressed upon ramping up testing and strictly monitor mask-wearing.

Maharashtra has now hit the second wave of coronavirus infection as it reported 23,179 new COVID-19 cases. This is a record high as far as 2021 is concerned and also accounted for over 60 per cent of new cases diagnosed in India.

Earlier, state health minister Rajesh Tope also stated that lockdown is not the only option that the government has to get the spread under control. He also urged people to COVID-appropriate behaviour at all times and help the government in beating the virus.

Moreover, the BMC additional commissioner Suresh Kakani also favoured the state government and said that lockdown is not a solution to curb the spread of infection. Everyone needs to follow the norms right now, in any particular area or containment zone that have witnessed many more cases there are chances to curb the COVID-19 cases.
