Maharashtra Water Resource Minister and Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) state-unit President, Jayant Patil lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for playing politics during the time of the coronavirus outbreak. Patil said that the BJP will not be able to repeat Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh-like operation lotus here.

While talking to the reporters via Zoom app, Jayant Patil attacked BJP saying that the opposition party was unable to trust that it was no more in power and is levelling changers against the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government out of frustration.

“BJP is frustrated and making efforts to topple the government. However, the MVA government is quite stable and there has been proper dialogue among three partners. The government will remain in power for the next 15 years,” Patil was quoted in a report by the Free Press Journal as saying.

The minister further took a dig at senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, without taking his name. Patil said that some BJP leader still feels that they will return to power in Maharashtra, “Mi Punah Yein”. However, the BJP will not be successful in its plan to topple the government here, Jayant Patil added.

Speaking on the pending approval of Uddhav Thackeray’s appointment as MLC, the NCP leader said that he was not going to make a remark which could disrespect Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

“The governor is expected to take a decision on the recommendations made by the state government within the legal framework. He may take one or two more days to seek legal opinion,” Patil informed.

Earlier, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut also expressed confidence that his party chief Uddhav Thackeray will remain the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Raut, however, questioned that what was stopping Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to nominate Thackeray as Minister of Legislative Council (MLC) from governor’s quota?

Uddhav Thackeray is not a member of either house - legislative assembly or council. According to the Indian constitution, within six months of taking the oath, any minister is supposed to get elected in either state legislative assembly or council. The deadline for Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to get elected to the state legislature is May 24.
