Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Devendra Fadnavis has demanded a high-level inquiry in connection with the Palghar ‘mob lynching’ incident.

Earlier, an angry mob from Gadchinchale village in Palghar district of Maharashtra brutally beat up and killed three people including a 70-year-old man suspecting that they were child-kidnappers and organ harvesters.

In one of the viral videos of the incident, the angry mob can be seen beating up the victims with sticks and stones in the presence of the police. A team of police personnel tried to control the situation but the three men including two Sadhus and a driver were ‘lynched’ by the mob.

“Seeing the visual that has come out, the Palghar incident of mob lynching is shocking & inhuman. It is more disturbing especially when we are going through such tough times otherwise too. I urge the state government to immediately set up a High-level enquiry and ensure that people who are responsible for this are brought to justice at the earliest, (sic),” BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis tweeted.

In a video message, Fadnavis further stated that the mob beat up three people in Palghar before the police. “The law and order situation in Maharashtra is not visible. I demand a high-level enquiry into the matter. Along with taking action against the culprits, the role of the police should also be looked at,” Devendra Fadnavis said.

The Maharashtra Police has arrested 110 people in connection with the Palghar incident where the angry mob ‘lynched’ three people including two Sadhus and a driver. Of the 110 people arrested, 101 people have been sent police custody till April 30 while other 9 have been sent to a juvenile home.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday night said that the culprits involved in the incident will be brought to justice.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has already announced a high-level inquiry into the Palghar incident while warning those who are creating communal divide over the issue.
