The number of coronavirus cases in the city is increasing day by day despite the lockdown imposed by the government. Officials are imposing strict guidelines, but localities in Mumbai have seen an exponential increase in the case. COVID-19 count in India has reached 86,000, and the number of cases in Maharashtra will reach 30,000 by May 16, 2020, which remains to be the most affected in the pandemic.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation along with the state government and police officials have asked the people to not step out unless necessary, as this would help officials curb the spread of the virus. However, over the last few days, residents in Govandi's Shivaji Nagar have not been following the norms, and the rules are being flouted.

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya recently took to Twitter to share some visuals from Shivaji Nagar, with a message that read, "'Ham Nahi Sudhrenge' crowd at Shivaji Nagar Govandi Road No. 2 today, May 15, at 8 pm, Where is Police of Thackeray Sarkar?"

In a conversation with ANI, he said, "1000 COVID19 cases have been reported in Shivaji Nagar area in last 15 days, still such huge crowd. Maharashtra govt has called 20 companies of Central Armed Forces, why are they not using them? I demand immediate army deployment in areas like Shivaji Nagar."

He has constantly raised voice and targeted the Thackeray government accusing them of not being able to control the spread of coronavirus not taking relevant measures to handle Corona patients in private hospitals. Recently, he also wrote a letter to Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope regarding the same.

He also stated that on May 15, 2020, he and some other doctors were trying hard to admit four Corona patients at private hospitals in Mumbai, however, six hospitals denied them admission as the beds were full. Two of these patients were from Mulund and two were from Sion.
