According to the latest reports, Sambhaji Raje has declared that he will not be contesting the Rajya Sabha elections from Maharashtra. He claims to have done so to avert horse-trading.

Based on accounts, Sambhaji Raje elaborated on how because BJP can only attain 2 seats and the MVA alliance which constitutes Shiv SenaCongress and NCP can get one each, he will not be contesting the "extra" sixth seat alone through the assistance of other parties.

It has been reported that he allegedly rejected the offer by Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray to join the Shiv Sena to contest on its ticket. He reaffirmed his wish to contest as an independent candidate supported by the MVA government,

In addition to this, he also proclaimed that through "Swarajya", his political outfit, he would go on a tour of the state to take up problems of the various sections.

Sambhaji Raje, during a press conference, proclaimed that he is a descendant of Shivaji Maharaj and also has his own pride. He uttered that he would strengthen the Swarajya organisation in Maharashtra.

In other developments, Shiv Sena's Sanjay Raut and Sanjay Pawar filed their nomination papers for the six Rajya Sabha seats from the state. During this occasion, state chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and NCP chief Sharad Pawar were present.
