Maharashtra Cooperative and Marketing Minister Balasaheb Patil tested positive for the coronavirus on Sunday. He is the seventh cabinet minister in the Uddhav Thackeray government to test COVID-19 positive. 

It is learnt that the minister is undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at Karad’s Krishna Hospital in Satara district and was in stable condition. In a statement, Patil’s son Jashraj informed that there is nothing to worry as the minister was in stable condition. 

Patil’s test reports for the coronavirus came positive on Friday night after which he was admitted to the hospital in Satara. Patil is the fourth Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) minister to test positive after Jitendra Awhad, Dhananjay Munde and Sanjay Bansode. 

Patil had recently met NCP chief Sharad Pawar during the latter’s visit in Karad tehsil of Satara district. Pawar has tested negative for the coronavirus but four people including a cook and two security guard have tested positive. 

Earlier, Ashok Chavan and Aslam Shaikh of the Congress were tested positive for the coronavirus. Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Minister Abdul Sattar were also tested COVID-19 positive. 

Of the seven ministers, Jitendra Awhad, Dhananjay Munde, Ashok Chavan have recovered from the coronavirus and have taken charge of their ministerial work. 

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nilesh Rane also tested positive for the coronavirus. Rane took to Twitter to inform that he has been tested COVID-19 positive and has quarantined himself on the advice of his doctor. He has requested those who came in close contact with him to get themselves tested for the coronavirus. 

Independent MP Navneet Kaur-Rana was also tested positive for the coronavirus. Recently, she was shifted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital from Nagpur via ambulance. This happened after her health worsened as she complained of breathing problem and developed a high fever.
