The State Government has decided to form a separate Cabinet sub-committee for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), who are displeased with the government's decision to address the Maratha community's demand for reservation by implementing the Hyderabad and Satara gazettes. This committee will review the schemes for the welfare of the OBC category and suggest measures for their improvement.
Manoj Jarange Patil had gone on a hunger strike at Azad Maidan for his various demands, including the issuance of Kunbi certificates to the Maratha community in general. Taking cognizance of the hunger strike of the Maratha protesters, the government on Tuesday accepted most of the demands of the protesters. This decision of the government is being expressed by other backward classes. OBC leaders have warned of moving the court against the government's decision to implement the Hyderabad Gazette regarding Maratha reservation, accusing it of infiltrating the Maratha community through the back door into the Other Backward Classes.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has expressed open displeasure with the government's decision and has warned of challenging it in court. The government has decided to constitute a separate cabinet sub-committee under the chairmanship of Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule to suggest measures regarding the social and economic condition of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
This committee will examine various state government schemes for the welfare of Other Backward Classes and suggest measures to the government in this regard. The newly formed Cabinet sub-committee for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) has been entrusted with several key responsibilities. These include reviewing and monitoring the implementation of various schemes being carried out for the OBC community through the Maharashtra State Other Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation. The committee will also formulate measures to ensure adequate representation of the OBCs in government-controlled services and positions, including public sector undertakings, statutory bodies, and semi-government institutions.
In addition, the committee will engage in discussions on the social, educational, and economic status of the OBC community, along with related matters. It will coordinate the administrative and legal processes related to OBC reservation issues and maintain liaison with legal advisors appointed to represent the government in court cases concerning these matters. The committee has also been granted the authority to issue directives to special legal advisors where necessary.
The Cabinet sub-committee, formed to address issues concerning the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), will be chaired by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. The committee includes several key ministers: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, Water Supply Minister Gulabrao Patil, Water Conservation Minister Sanjay Rathod, Environment Minister Pankaja Munde, Minister for Other Backward Bahujan Welfare Atul Save, and Agriculture Minister Dattatraya Bharne. Additionally, the Secretary of the Department of Other Backward Bahujan Welfare will also be a part of this committee.
