Palghar Mob Lynching Incident: Yogi Adityanath urges Uddhav Thackeray to take strict action against culprits

Maharashtra Chief Minister informed that 110 people involved in the mob lynching of three men in Palghar have been arrested. Of the 110 people, 101 have been sent in police custody till April 30 while other nine have been sent to juvenile homes.

As the video of horrific mob lynching incident in Palghar went viral on social media, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday informed that he has urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to take strict action against the culprit behind the lynching of three men including two sadhus. 

“Spoke with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray last evening in regard to the murder of saints of Juna Akhara Swami Kalpvrikshgiri, Swami Sushilgiri and their driver Neelesh Telgarhe in Palghar. I urged him (Thackeray) to take strict action against the culprits,” the official Twitter handle of Yogi Adityanath said. 

Maharashtra Chief Minister has informed that some people have been arrested and the rest will be identified and strict action will be taken against them, Yogi Adityanath added. 

On Monday afternoon, Maharashtra Chief Minister informed that 110 people involved in the mob lynching of three men in Palghar have been arrested. Of the 110 people, 101 have been sent in police custody till April 30 while other nine have been sent to juvenile homes. 

The three men who were killed have been identified as Sushil Giri Maharaj (35), Chikane Maharaj Kalpavrikshgiri (70) and Nilesh Telgane (35). They were travelling towards Surat to attend the funeral of common acquaintance and were killed by the mob on suspicion that they were child-kidnappers and organ harvesters. The incident happened in Gadchinchale village in Palghar district of Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has already announced a high-level inquiry into the Palghar incident while warning those who are creating communal divide over the issue. 

Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to CM Uddhav Thackeray over the Palghar ‘mob lynching’ incident and asked for a report on the same. 

During his conversation with the Union Home Minister, Thackeray asked for the support of the home ministry to help investigate those who are trying to spread misinformation on social media regarding the Palghar incident. 

Meanwhile, there had be a violent incident reported from Muzaffarnagar district last week, when police personnel were attacked by residents in Morna village with sticks and rods. The police personnel had objected to a gathering during the nationwide lockdown amid coronavirus outbreak.
