Railways ensure 'Berth of passengers' choice'

Ministry of Railways is planning to allow passengers to get their choice of berths. As per the current operating software, tickets are booked randomly. The passengers get the berth as per the availability in the coach. 

The disadvantage of the existing system is that senior citizens and women have to travel on their allotted births whether it’s lower or upper. They had to switch their berth with passengers in the running train.

The change in the software will see passenger getting just ‘CNF’ message i.e. confirmed. The berth number will be allotted only four hours before the departure time of the train. Indian Railways is planning to implement this at earliest.
