According to the latest reports, on Wednesday, May 11, the Railways Ministry advised travellers to wear a mask while travelling on the train. This announcement comes amidst a rise in COVID-19 cases in India.

Based on accounts, an official notice was issued by the Ministry of Railways that elaborated on how all passengers should wear face masks at the entry as well as exits and while travelling on the train.

In addition to this, it has also asked the travellers to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines at railway stations.

Back in March, the ministry of home affairs revoked the provisions of the Disaster Management Act for coronavirus disease. The containment measures were removed considering the overall development in the condition and the preparedness of the government to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the health ministry had advised that certain COVID-19 containment measures such as the use of face masks will continue to remain in force.

Following this announcement, the Maharashtra cabinet revoked all the curbs enforced for the control of COVID-19. With this, the wearing of masks was only an advisory.

The state chief minister, Uddhav Thackeray has however continued to reiterate that while the state is not forcing citizens to wear face masks, they have not yet declared Maharashtra as mask free. He has been urging the citizens to continue wearing masks to protect themselves.
